Two things to check before driving in rainy weather

Can you believe it's already October? Now that we're full swing into the rainy season, it's time to check a couple simple things    to make sure your car's ready for the rainy weather.

#1: Tires

As the roads get wet, the traction on your tires becomes even more important.  You want to make sure you have at least 4/32" of tread on your tires, especially during the fall and winter months.  You know the old penny check?  Well, the top of Lincoln's head is about 3/32".  So, pull out a penny and take a peek at your tires, or stop by anytime and we can quickly check them for you for free.  Easy!

#2: Wiper Blades:

The fall is a great time to get a fresh set of wiper blades installed on your vehicle.  The heat of the summer can take its toll on the rubber in the blade, so now is a good time to test them out to make sure they're working well.

We have two different styles of wiper blades we sell here. Here's the skinny on both:

Picture
Standard Blade:
This style of wiper blade has multiple pressure points because it has several arms that attach to the blade.  This is the type of blade that's on most cars and works just fine for most people.  These blades typically run about $10 a piece.

Picture
Beam-Style Blade:
These blades provide consistent pressure across the length of the blade because of the increased flexibility in the design of the blade.  These are higher-end and people tend to be very happy with them. These blades typically run about $20 a piece.

We try to make wipers easy here at Juanita Firs.  Stop by anytime, and we can install them for you in just a couple of minutes. We measure your blades to make sure they fit just right, and we don't charge anything for the installation.  No appointment needed.

Tires with a little or no tread depth couldn't generate better traction on the slippery road surface which could lead to an accident. So, the tread depth should be measured regularly and tires with a little or no tread depth should be replaced with suitable substitutes. Besides, tire pressure should also be inspected on a daily basis as under-inflated tires couldn't generate better traction on the road surface as well as it has a negative influence on the fuel economy of the vehicle. So, tires should be properly inflated.

Seasonal maintenance is very much important for every vehicle. In rainy season, the tread depth of tires should be measured to ensure that the tires have at least 4/32 inch of tread. At this time, the roads are generally wet and therefore slippery. So, the tires with little or no tread depth should be replaced as these are unable to produce better traction on the slippery road. Windshield wipers are used to remove rain and sleet. So, we should check the wipers. Besides this, we should also check the headlights and taillights as driving in the rain limits visibility.

Lack of visibility while driving a vehicle could lead to an accident. The wipers play a critical role in the performance of the vehicle by enhancing the visibility. However, a damaged wiper couldn't do so efficiently. So, the condition of the wipers should be inspected regularly and damaged wipers should be replaced after a certain time interval to keep the windshield clean.
